importance of records kept by the Freedmen's
Bureau.













Your goal:
To become an "expert" on ONE topic related to the experience of newly emancipated slaves. You must choose ONE activity to complete from each section (A and B). You must complete one before starting the next!



Step ONE: choose a topic from the list of green topics to the right
Step TWO: Select an activity from the A level.
Step Three: Use links and other sources to complete A level.
Step Four: Turn in your quality A level work.


A level:

  • Create a "top down" web related to your topic. You must include three main ideas and 3-4 details under each main idea.
  • Make an acrostic using your topic. Attach at least 15 terms/events/people/ideas to it.
  • Make and fill in a crossword puzzle using at least 15 terms related to your topic. Use this website to make the puzzle: Puzzlemaker
-If you want to do this you must write the clues and answers BEFORE making the puzzle.

  • Use the "ABC" graphic organizer. Fill in at least 20 terms/events/people/ideas related to your topic.
  • Create a vocabulary page; include ten words and definitions related to your topic.

B level:

  • Show and tell: Find at least four pictures to illustrate your topic. Include a caption that provides the place and date of the photo. Make TWO subjective observations and TWO objective observations for each photo.
  • Make a time line showing major events related to your topic.
  • Make a poster designed to inform freedmen about your topic.
  • Find and analyze two editorial cartoons related to your topic.
  • Create a textbook page with text and visuals designed to teach an elementary student about your topic.
  • Make a Venn Diagram comparing two people/events/ideas related to your topic.
  • Write two journal pages from the perspective of someone experiencing events related to your topic
